A LETTER TO MY DOG

My Dear Dakota,

I’ve observed you closely since we got you, and I’ve learned that your cognitive abilties leave me looking foolish.

Dakota, I love you.  I know, you know this.  If there were transcripts of everything I say to you in a day, “I love you” would account for 70 percent of the text.  I can imagine that this gets annoying, but you have to take accountability for your actions.

You are very loveable.  It is impossibile not to express the feeling that my heart is about to burst, in your presence.  This is on you!  Someone once asked me, how I knew you were my soulmate.  I think it can be explained simply, that when I’m with you I never feel alone.  I think I could start a new life with you, in different cities, surrounded by different prople, facing whatever challenges come my way, and I would feel strong knowing your there.

If I knew you would be with me forever, I would be in peace looking at my future.  I know that I won’t be able to say that forever, but today I can!  I would donate years of my own life to make our timelines more even, if I could.

The silver lining I see, is that you will have me forever.  And that is important.

I hope to be your guardian, and make you feel safe and loved.  It’s the least you deserve.
